The seat of the mountain community, Camerino deserves a peculiar attention thanks to its  great richness in history and culture. An ancient university town whose origin goes back to 1300s right away, it reached its period of great splendour in the Middle Age, under the lordship of the Da Varano family, unopposed masters of the town until the half of 1500s.

An interesting characteristic of this town is as well the large number of castles and forts, all signs of the power of this ex-duchy.

The town, standing between the Chienti valley and the Potenza one, is excellent architectonally thanks to its characteristic  medieval structure with impressive surrounding walls which protected its harmonium squares and elegant buildings both public and religious.

Very interesting is also the gothic Church of S.Venanzio, restored after the earthquake of the year 1799.
